“MEND” would soon unmask Their Sponsors

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, today, 19 October 2010, issued a fresh threat to bomb any campaign gathering President Goodluck Jonathan might plan to address. Why will this “MEND” be targeting one of their own? President Goodluck Jonathan is an Ijaw, from the Niger Delta.
An email on behalf of MEND, signed by Jomo Gbomo warned of the October 1 attacks about an hour before they occurred. Another one later claimed responsibility.

Submitted by edoji on Fri, 10/08/2010 - 02:46Joint Revolutionary Council (JRC), an umbrella of major militant groups in the Niger Delta yesterday said former military president, Ibrahim Babangida, contacted it to carry out the bomb attacks. JRC's spokesman, the group alleged that the attacks were carried out by Henry Okah with the support of IBB, and that the aim was to assassinate President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice President Namadi Sambo among other top government officials.

In what observers termed “pre-emptive strike”, former Military President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd), yesterday said President Goodluck Jonathan is confused over the Independence Day bomb blasts in Abuja. But the presidency warned the General to watch his steps.

Just in case you don't know, Nine Nigerian States have accessed the Nigerian capital market for funds via bonds and so far have raised N108 billion from 1999 to date. These states claim they raise this money for the financing of infrastructure projects. When the treasury has been looted dry, the State Governors resort to borrowing. Future generations are now being saddled with bondage of debts. The future of the citizens of those states is being mortgaged, and no one is asking questions!

Around August 2007, the newly elected governors of the 36 states of the federation met and clamoured for the release and sharing of the excess crude funds. The governors had been mounting pressure on the former President, Umaru Yar’adua to approve the sharing of the money from excess crude oil sales, saying that it would help them stabilise in their states which treasuries had been looted by some of their predecessors.
