Submitted by ifeadebayo on Sun, 06/27/2010 - 20:03Nigeria is going broke! We can’t pay our bills, we have no savings. - Our bills are what are on the expenditure side of the annual budget, capital and recurrent i.e. the salaries and also the classrooms and hospitals. So this year we projected we will have bills of N5.2 trillion (4.2t in the budget plus N620b supplementary budget) but we are projecting an income of only N3.08t (based on selling 2.3mbpd at $67) hence we have a budget deficit of N1.52 trillion.

Nigeria is only an invitee to the Club of G-20 meeting holding in Toronto, yet President Jonathan Goodluck travelled to Canada with a delegation of 140 men plus women. Some Nigerians wonder ask: why so many people? Are they all desperate to get out of town?
The Centre for Responsive Government a few minutes ago raised an alarm. It says the initial cost to Nigerian tax payers is $3.5 million dollars for a few days of sojourn and hype to Canada. This amount may rise when the final calculation is determined “says its leader, Dr Okechukwu Elonu .
He pointed out that an entire floor of a five-star hotel was booked for the visiting Nigerian delegation. Their meals and accommodations were fully and expeditiously paid up front. Expensive Limos were rented for transportation around town.

India: Lawmakers earn 16,000 rupee ($400) monthly salary
Submitted by admin on Sat, 06/26/2010 - 02:34IT SEEMS outrageous at first glance: legislators in a country in which hundreds of millions live in poverty wish to vote themselves a fivefold rise in their modest 16,000 rupee ($400) monthly salary. Outrage has certainly been the tone of much of the Indian press since a parliamentary committee recommended the salary increase this week. The case, though, is not straightforward and the public row goes to deeper frustrations on all sides.

Submitted by admin on Sat, 06/26/2010 - 02:09I find I. Ebite response to an article published on elombah.com (Government corruption leading to unsafe nation) Interesting. Mr Ebite opined that Nigeria’s corruption problem is not all about government corruption. He added that Government corruption is a problem all over the world so, even if you reduce government corruption in Nigeria, little will change. That reminded of an article published yesterday by the Associated Press: ‘Spain probes 3,000 Swiss bank accounts for fraud’

Governor Godswill Akpabio is Not A Barrister? Now I know Why!
Submitted by admin on Fri, 06/25/2010 - 16:24As soon as Akpabio was (s)elected a Governor, he began referring to himself as a Barrister. Such a false claim was contrary to the ethics of the Nigerian Bar Association. The body had to send a “cease and desist“ warning letter to Governor Akpabio to stop referring to himself as a Barrister. It is okay if the media and others refer to Akpabio as Barrister, but Akpabio himself cannot claim that he is in-fact a Barrister.
