Challenge to the Diaspora Population

Distribution of food and money for political mileage Vs articulation and implementation of issues and ideas to positively impact the lives of The People permanently! How nauseating! But most of all, how pitiful, and shameful that the Diaspora population that (ought to) know better, therefore, come to the aid of our hungry masses, has such apathy, and hardly does anything beyond write complaints on the Internet.

Would Bankole elect himself? Or would Charles Odedo, in Idemili Federal Constituency, elect himself? And even if they are going to rig the election, would Bankole and Odedo (and others) rig themselves into office on their own? They would have to use The People to win legitimately, or rig themselves in. Therefore, why is the Diaspora population not helping to mobilize and free The People from the bondage and tyranny of inept representation? Shame! Just shameful!!
Bankole is from Ogun State. So, if Mr. Michael Iloegbunam from Abatete in Idemili constituency or Vincent Ofoedu from Njioka constituency take the attitude that Bankole's election does not affect them, they would be mistaken because as a "Federal Legislator" what Bankole does at the National Assembly "affects ALL" of Nigeria and Nigerians, at home and abroad.  So, Bankeole's election is not just "an Ogun State Issue" that Iloegbunam and Ofoedu would leave for Tim Otunde from Imeko, rather it is "a Nigerian Issue" that should pique the interest of ALL Nigerians everywhere.

Same way, my election in Idemili Federal Constituency ought to be of interest to ALL Nigerians and friends of Nigeria because my activities in the Federal House would impact ALL of Nigeria and Nigerians. Just so that we are clear, I will work my butt off to steer legislations that would positively impact Idemili, Anambra State and the South East, but these areas are parts of Nigeria, therefore, my legislative agenda would hardly be written in isolation for Idemili or Anambra State alone, rather my efforts would be such that what is good for Idemili, ought to be good for Abia, Kastina, Rivers, Benue and Ekiti States. This is where 'Legislative Skills" come in, and that is why we need credible and effective representation at all levels of our governments.

All Diaspora aspirants/candidates are fighting "The Establishment" aspirants/candidates. Enough said, except to add that they will not go easily! The thing is that "The Establishment Candidates" are the same ones that have been there, that give us the mess that we have, and that the Diaspora population has not had much good to say about. So, why is the Diaspora population not helping to get them out of office, and/or make them sit up? Is that not the democratic way?

My Challenge to the Diaspora Population

As Americans celebrate Memorial Day this weekend, I ask the Nigerian Diaspora population in America, and other places, to fore go one bottle of Hennessy/Martel, or one case of Heineken/Becks/Stout or one case of Merlot this weekend and send $50.00 (or more if you can) to any Diaspora candidate of your choice, including yours truly. My experience is that we will each spend more than $100.00 on entertainment this weekend alone. I believe that donating half of that entertainment budget, just for this weekend, is a patriotic thing to do for our country. I am not saying that people should not "blow off steam" after a long week and hot month of August, rather, I am saying that instead of drinking 4 bottles of Heineken, drink 2. Instead of drinking 2 bottles of Merlot, drink one, etc. Just for this weekend.

This "sacrifice" is not too much on individual basis, but collectively would go a long way to lift our country from the pangs of a bunch of "do-nothing" characters that are holding our country hostage.  Let us, by this action/"sacrifice" this weekend, come together and "take our country back" from them. The Establishment aspirants/candidates would get a jolt if each Diaspora candidate gets support this weekend from 500 or 1,000 Diasporans in the $50.00 amount as above. This is hardly a drop in the bucket compared to the estimated 17,000,000 Nigerians abroad. I think that we could do better, but we have to start somewhere to cure the apathy of the Diaspora population. This is the time. Please commit to do your part.
