What If IBB and co win(s) the 2011 elections?
For a while there have been loads of buzzes about IBB and co (Atiku etc) return to the political scene, many have gone over the roof saying we don't want him, we don't need him and all that. People have gone as far as creating groups on Facebook, twitting and all that to form a campaign against his return. This is and are all good steps to showing our displeasure with his evil regime while in office. But I have always looked at this from a very different perspective.
Why all the noise about his/their return?
Who cares If he/they returns to Nigerian politics or decides to contest in Togo's next coming elections?
Who are those supporting him/them?
Does declaring to contest in an election imply get you into office?
Will Nigerians vote for him/them?
What will they do If he/they win(s) the elections (through rigging as there seems no other way)?
What will Nigerians do?
Now I will attempt to take on these questions one after the other..
Why all the noise about his return?
It's really disgusting, annoying and absurd, reading about them in the papers, seeing them at rallies where people are exalting him and over-hyping this self proclaimed evil-genius.
I commend efforts of the various groups that have charged him to court on his various criminal actions while in office from embezzlement to murders etc. those are the type of people that should be exalted and praised, those are the kind of men and women that should be talked about in the papers. Those are the kind of movements we should all be supporting.
If we had done that since, have protested and charged these corrupt ex-leaders to court and let the rule of law takes its judgment then we would not be here running pillar to post that IBB is back.
We should sit down and ask ourselves what is the actual way forward.
All these ex- leaders should be tried and brought to book for their actions while in office. I noticed a similar reaction from majority of Nigerians when the House of Senate last week voted to delete an aspect of the Constitution which prohibits people indicted for various offences from contesting elections.
Who cares If he returns to Nigerian politics or decides to contest in Togo's next coming elections?
I as an individual don't care if he is running for office, I am simply disappointed that men like him should be behind bars not on the streets and on ballot boxes. But once again, it's Nigeria where the top grade criminals walk the streets with drums and cheering. This status quo has to be changed and I commend the efforts of those that have been doing their all since time immemorial to change this.
Nigerians really have to look at themselves and ask what kind of changes we really want. And are we ready to give it our all? We should start defining these things to ourselves and making them clear!
Who are those supporting him?
This is the really scary part of the entire absurdity! Are there really Nigerians supporting IBB or his likes?
I will like to know if they are in the majority or minority, I will like to know how these people reason. I see it clearly as a sign, act of insanity, inferiority and submission!
Does declaring to contest in an election imply get you into office?
Well, I have had to take a second look and a third look at this, the reactions of many people just make me wonder if just declaring to contest for an election gets you into office. I was wondering where the populace's vote had gone. Well I finally realised again and re-assured myself that declaring an intention to contest in an election doesn't get you into office that actual votes do! So that's a great relief there!
Will Nigerians vote for him/them?
I certainly WOULD NOT VOTE FOR NONE OF THEM!
Well throwing these questions out there and time will tell wouldn't it!
This would be a actual test of our entire change desires and clamours!
What will they do If he/they win(s) the elections (through rigging as there seems no other way)? What will Nigerians do?
This is the actual aim of the article, what would we don if these men end up in office?
Would we sit and complain like we did in the days of Abacha, OBJ, Yar'dua etc? Or even those before? Would we sit and wait another miracle from a god?
Well this I would really like to know. The corrupt political elite are doing their all and best to hold on to this country by the neck, their foreign backers are also assuring them of their supports. They would do anything and all it takes to hold on to our political, socio-economic freedom. But question remains are we ready to give it our all? Have we reached the stage of revolutionary maturity?
On a final note, if this inarticulate letter provokes any thoughts, it has accomplished the objective which motivated it.
I close with our greeting - which is as much of a ritual as a hand- shake or an "Ave Maria Purissima" - ''Patria o Muerte'' Our Country or Death! -Che Guevara and Me!
Also My heart goes out to the journalists that have lost their lives in and outside Nigeria during the course of their work. And for we that are threading that line, I say death doesn't scare me. Hasta La Victoria Siempre!
