Africa doesn't need strongmen, it needs strong institutions - Barack Obama

Movement for Positive Action, for a Corruption-free Nigeria

One of the criticisms against many Nigerians, especially the so called ‘internet warriors’ is that they have head full of ideas about the problem with Nigeria but are reluctant to come up with a solution. Those with a head full of solution are likewise lacking in positive action.

We are therefore forming a movement that not only think up solutions but engage in ACTION. This is a simple action that does not ask much of you but very effective. It is based on the premise that a well informed populace, absent media spin, will be motivated to positive action.

On the other hand, Nigerians have been held down for so long because of the absence of effective leadership, more especially, civil leadership. Like Barack Obama said in Ghana: “Africa doesn't need strongmen, it needs strong institutions”.

What is the way forward for Nigeria? There are two effective solutions.

1. Short term: The Rawlings Solution

Concerned Nigerians should start a fund to hire a good mercenary. The goal is to start killing the corrupt politicians (the looters) one after the other starting from all the past heads of state. By the time he gets to the hundredth victim, the rest will run or sit up!

2. Long term: A TRUE FEDERATION

Similar to what obtained when the regions were AUTONOMOUS and INDEPENDENT of each other in the management of their own internal affairs - and not this FORCED and COERCED JACK-BOOT ‘NIGERIANIZATION’!

We are simply DIFFERENT PEOPLES, but we may be able to live together in peace in a TRUE FEDERATION like the Swiss, the Germans, and even the
United States and Canada have.

However, because of our history and who we are as a people, the above solutions are a dead end, impossible to attain. Therefore we should start from somewhere.

That is why we are planning a movement for positive action.

What can you do?

We have many  members but are now looking for leaders.

You can be one

This is more of hard stuff not meant for the weak, a movement to make sure that Nigerians everywhere regularly receive the massive expose of the atrocious activities perpetrated by Shenanigans that ravage Nigeria, whether in the name of government, religion or business. The idea is that if you register, you start recruiting others by collecting emails from Nigeria, especially of students. Let us build a huge database so that they too can get hold of this vital information that the Nigeria media no longer report.

It is no longer news that The Nigerian Press has abdicated their Responsibilities to hold these rapacious individuals to account. Thankfully, Cyber journalism has stepped in to fill the void.

Cyber journalism is critical and uncompromised journalism that has emerged as a result of the sharp but very crucial contradictions being thrown up every day by the Nigerian brand and practice of primitive capitalism. A brand that projects high profile corruptions among the few but promotes hunger, misery and indigence among the many.

Yes, you may frequent Saharareporters and other websites (there are many other
Nigeria websites you may not have heard of) but there are many people in Nigeria
who have not even heard of these websites, who might not afford the 200 Naira per hour to browse the internet but only go online probably once a week to check their emails.

Members of this group have elected to receive EXPOSE to their inbox and e-mails regularly so that no one misses out on any issue; this knowledge would enlighten everyone to the corrupt activities that is committed in our name and that give Nigerians a bad name.
Nigerians need to know learn the nature of the beasts (for they are less than humans) that we have allowed dominate us. Who knows, the generated disgust and anger might move some of us one day to say, ‘enough is enough’!

Register with this movement and be a part of this effort to reclaim
Nigeria. You can send any relevant news link you discover. Some may be funny, salacious or scandalous. Let’s expose their dirty secrets so that together we can hopefully stop their nefarious activities.

for news updates. The battle will not be easy and the journey might be long. Barack Obama’s success teaches us that those that want change can bring change only if they plan well for it. The energy of our youths is waiting to be harnessed.

The aim is not to contest for any political office, but we could start from effecting legislative and political change for example by-

1.      Championing the Freedom of Information Act. It is currently stuck at being ‘work in progress’. No Nigerian politician is interested in seeing this Act succeed.

2.      Getting Nigerians to expose corruption wherever they see one. It is the lawyers that protect the looters. It is the bankers that launder the looted funds. It is the policemen that escort them. It is the ordinary teacher and Youth Corper that falsify election results. These ordinary individuals while engaging in their jobs or doing their duties would also tip us off so as to expose them. We have several examples of people successfully doing that.

3.      We have journalists that will painstakingly investigate a scandal. But his editor will in the end call the subject of the investigation and let him know the newspaper house have something against him. The big man will come and settle with millions and the efforts of the journalist will end up in vain while the editor smiles to the Bank. The report will not see the light of day. Yes, we will get the journalist to send us his report and we will follow up from there.

4.      We may champion electoral reform. The way things are, it simply a Herculean task to dislodge the ruling party from power and opposition politicians is jumping into the gravy train. In view of this, a member of the Electoral Reform Committee (ERC), Barrister Festus Okoye suggested:

“Groups and other stakeholders can forward and sponsor the three Bills in the Report of the Electoral Reform Committee to the National Assembly as private members Bill and rescue the electoral process from the Bills already submitted and programmed to fail. Civil society groups and organizations can design a robust engagement policy and work with members of the National and State Assemblies especially during the public hearing of some of the Bills to impute into provisions of some of the Bills that can strengthen the electoral process and clean up the environment for elections.”

We might sponsor awards for the Investigative Journalist of the Year or the Corruption Buster of the year.

We may sponsor free internet centres, especially in schools. Where student members of this movement will go to browse the internet for free.

We will liaise with other similarly minded organisations while remaining absolutely politically non-partisan.

Please remember, these suggestions are merely frameworks, we welcome your further suggestions.
