African representatives in Olympic basketball, Nigeria and Tunisia have been eliminated from the London 2012 Olympics men’s basketball tournament. This followed Lithuania’s defeat of Tunisia by 76-63 points in their Group A game on Monday morning. France on Monday also beat Nigeria’s men’s
basketball team, D’Tigers, in the Group A final preliminary game of the London 2012 Olympics.
After a spirited fight, Nigeria succumbed to France, confirming Black Africa’s largest nation’s early exit from the basketball tournament.
The final result was France 79 Nigeria 73.
Although it stood at 44 – 44 at a point during Monday’s contest, France created a gulf of 41 – 36 by the end of the third quarter.
Nigeria lost to Lithuania and the United States.
This has enabled Lithuania to pick the fourth seed in Group A.
Lithuania will now face Russia in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
Russia clinched the No. 1 seed in Group B despite falling to Australia on Monday.
If the United States beat Argentina on Monday night, the team will face Australia in the quarterfinals.
Either China or Britain will be eliminated after their game on Monday.
Lithuania on Monday morning trashed Tunisia 76-63 in the London 2012 Olympics Group A basketball duel.
Tunisia had led in the opening stanzas of the game by 35 – 29.
Other games in the group scheduled for Monday are Nigeria versus France (14.30GMT) and Argentina versus United States (22.15).
Australia beat Russia 82-80 at the Basketball Arena in London in the Olympic men’s basketball Group B at the 2012 London Games on Monday.
Russia leads the Olympic men’s basketball Group B with 9
points. Australia is currently second with 8 points and Brazil
is third with 7 points after the most recent match.
The fixtures for the group for Monday are Britain v China (15.45)
Spain v Brazil (19.00).
