There are indications that the President of one - man Public Interest Lawyers League, PILL, may be on the run from the Nigeria police for his false call for the resignation and arrest of the presiding officers of the House of Representatives. Eight days after the police visited the office of PILL in Abuja to request that Abdul Mahmud, provide
evidential justification for his false call, he is yet to honour the invitation
In a letter of invitation to Mahmud dated July 20, 2012 with reference No. CR: 3000/X/XSQD/FHQ/ABJ/VOL 41/271 signed by Assistant Commissioner of police Ibrahim o. Iro for Commissioner of Police in charge of X Squad Section “D” department (FCID) Abuja, the police said the invitation is in continuation of its investigations into the call by PILL
A police team led by Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, AlausaTolani delivered the letter of invitation July 20, 2012 at PILL’s Abuja office in the Central Business District of Abuja. Our sources confirm that Mahmud has not shown up at the office since the visit by the police
What our sources in Abuja are saying indicate that Mahmud has no plan to honour the invitation. He is believed to have run out of the country to avoid the embarrassment of having to own up to the fact that his call is without basis but a deliberate attempt to force the presiding officers into doing business with him
Recall that we had exposed the true motive behind the call for the resignation and arrest of the presiding officers by PILL as a ploy to get them to do business with him after initially rebuffing his requests
Mahmud returned to Nigeria after several years of failed sojourn in the United Kingdom last year to re-open a failed political career
